Looking for a natural cure for head lice?  You will be when you read up on the chemicals that are used to get rid of head lice.

When your kids are back at school, they can easily become contaminated with head lice.  The main solution out there to treat it is called A200 and it’s a harsh chemical composed of INSECTICIDES that I would not want to be putting on my child’s head.  Here’s some facts about A200:

Cost:  Kit (one treatment) $19.05

What is IN A-200 Lice Treatment (Piperonyl Butoxide Pyrethrins Topical)?

(From the Revolution Health website:)

“Piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins are insecticide chemicals.
Piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins topical (for the skin) is used to treat lice.

What are the possible side effects of A-200 Lice Treatment (Piperonyl Butoxide Pyrethrins Topical)?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins and call your doctor at once if you have severe stinging, burning, itching, swelling, or irritation where the medication is applied.

Less serious side effects may include:

* mild itching, burning, or stinging
* mild skin rash; or
* numbness or tingly feeling

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.

What other drugs affect A-200 Lice Treatment (Piperonyl Butoxide Pyrethrins Topical)?

It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on topically applied piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.

What should I avoid while taking A-200 Lice Treatment (Piperonyl Butoxide Pyrethrins Topical)?

Do not apply other topical medications or skin products to the same areas you treat with piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins topical, unless your doctor has told you to.

Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. If it does get into any of these areas, rinse with water. Do not use piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins topical on sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin.

Avoid close contact with others until the infection has been cured. Also avoid sharing hair combs, hair accessories, hats, clothing, bed linens, pillows, and other items of personal use. Lice infestations are highly contagious.”

Vicki’s Home Remedy Alternative

I decided to do some research about Head Lice since my step-granddaughter continually comes “home” with it after being with her mom, so I looked it up on the internet and I found a “great” head lice home remedy product that’s pretty inexpensive and once you buy it, you’ll always have the means to create your own home remedy, once and for all.

Some facts about head lice:

  • Anyone can get head lice – they’ve even found evidence of lice in Egyptian tombs and mummies.
  • Itchy scalp is the most common symptom of head lice and combing is the most used home remedy
  • They can be confused with sand, or dandruff & May be found anywhere on the head.
  • Lice don’t jump or fly, but they are fast crawlers, lice are most often spread by hair-to-hair contact.
  • They require human temperature and moisture to survive, & Die in 1 day or less when off the body.
  • They spread do not spread disease, and Pets do not carry human head lice.
  • Removing all lice and nits (eggs) from the hair is the best way to get rid of them naturally and safely.

The ZERO cost way to remove head lice is to get a very fine comb, and literally comb all the lice and nits (eggs) out of the hair.

More Information on Head Lice:

Head Lice are small about 1/32 to 1/16 inch in size. They can grow to almost an 1/8 inch, in some cases. They are visible to the naked eye. They do not fly or jump. They do crawl and scurry about the hair and scalp. They are an off white, brown, or sort of dirt in color. It is best to use a bright light to examine the hair and scalp. The brighter the light the easier they are to find. You may even do this out doors under direct sun light. Try running a fine tooth comb through the hair and then examine the comb.

Even if you do not find any live lice, you may still have a problem. So also look for nits, these are the eggs laid by female lice. Nits are found attached to the individual hair shaft, close to the scalp; usually not more than 1 inch above the scalp. They appear to be a tiny speck of sand on the hair. If you see what might be one, blow on it – If it flies off on the wind – it was likely only a piece of dirt, lint, or dandruff. On the other hand, if it just sits there and does not move – It is likely to be a nit (lice egg).

Combing Is The Only ” Zero Cost Method”

Combing alone can be an effective way to treating head lice.   You can do this by wetting the hair; you may add a little cream rinse or conditioner to facilitate the movement of a nit comb (fine tooth) through the hair. This will also stop the ability of head lice to just race through the hair and crawl out of sight.  Concentrate initially on removing every bug you find. Then work on the eggs and any bugs you may have missed as you work your way through the hair. You will need to comb the hair – then rinse – then comb a second time in on sitting. With patience and persistence you will eventually remove all lice and nits. Just do not give up, check each day until you find none for 3 days in a row.
